Garzón Petit Clos Cabernet Franc Block 560 2020

Garzon, Maldonado, San José, UruguayConsulting winemaker Alberto Antonini has always had high hopes for cabernet franc at Garzón, and with a Petit Clos label now in release, it confirms his optimism. Both Alberto Antonini and German Buzzone reveal how committed they are to not leaving any of their fingerprints on the Garzón wines, and the Petit Clos franc is a classic example. It's fermented in large 80 hectare tulip concrete vessels and spent up to a year in large untoasted French oak barrels, allowing the fruit and the terroir to marry with the wood without any apparent wood flavours in the wine. This subtle cabernet franc smells like the Loire but tastes like the New World. In essence, it's the best of both worlds. Look for scented blackberry and ripe currant, with perfectly balanced red and black fruits on the mid-palate streaked with minerality, a touch of salinity, and near-silky tannins at three years of age. It is easily one of the best cabernet francs I have tasted in a while, and it is a mere 12.5% to boot. Nothing but class. You can drink this now, but it will age effortlessly through 2030.Tasted: 12 September 2024Tasted by: Anthony GismondiPrices:
