Champagne Vilmart & Cie Grand Cellier d'Or 1er Cru 2019

Montagne de Reims, Champagne, FranceThough technically not a Grower Champagne (RM) due to Vilmart & Cie sourcing some grapes from around their Rilly-la-Montagne home base, they are certainly in the same authentic, hands-on, small-scale league. Grand Cellier d'Or is 1er cru chardonnay (80%) and pinot noir from vines 50+ years off their estate Les Blanche Voix vineyard and it's super chalky soils. It fermented (no MLF) and aged in 228L oak barrels and foudre over 10 months before heading to bottle and 42 months rest, and was disgorged in July 2023 with 7 g/L. Quite complete in the mouth, with brioche, green apple, lemon layered with fine lees and deep chalk, finishing with a gentle humming salinity. A softer, creamier, and more expansive wine than their classic Grand Cellier.Tasted: 26 September 2024Tasted by: Treve RingPrices:
