Champagne Krug Grande Cuvée 171èmé Brut NV
Champagne, FranceKrug Grande Cuvée 171ème Édition is a blend of 131 wines from 12 different years, the youngest of which is from 2015, while the oldest dates back to 2000. It spent seven years in Krug’s cellars to fully blossom, a testament to the depth and complexity of this remarkable wine. Overall, 20 years of careful craftsmanship went into this wine. Krug Cellarmaster Julie Cavil remarked that the chardonnays and meuniers of 2015 “showed a bit of restraint, so we looked to fresher years from our reserve wine library, including the harvests of 2008, 2013 and even 2014 to bring vivacity and tension to the blend.” There are also additions from warmer years, such as 2000 and 2006, that add patina and a toasty quality. Some 30 different expressions of pinot noir bring generosity, spice, and structure while the meuniers selected from 4 harvest years to add an assertive quality and diversity to the final blend. The final composition is 45% pinot noir, 37% chardonnay, and 18% meunier. The bubbles are energetic, persistent, and tiny, and the nose has a subtle scent of white flowers, citrus blossoms, and gingerbread. On the palate, the intense flavours are a mix of toasted notes punctuated with quince, limoncello, and a host of dried fruits.Tasted: 30 September 2024Tasted by: Anthony GismondiPrices:CDN | $425.00 | 750ml | estimated market price in Canada |
