Champagne Krug Grande Cuvée 170èmé Brut NV
Champagne, FranceKrug Grande Cuvée is the dream of Joseph Krug, who challenged his workers to produce "the very best Champagne every single year" regardless of annual variations in climate since 1843. The 170 edition is a blend of 195 wines from 12 different years, from 1998 to 2014. The composition is 51% pinot noir, 38% chardonnay, and 11% meunier, and 45% of the wine is from Krug reserves. In all, it spends about seven years in the cellars. Look for a light golden sparkly colour with a plethora of tiny persistent bubbles. The palate is loaded with intense floral and citrus with hints of marzipan, gingerbread, quince, and almond paste. Long and complex, and this will age forever. The folks at Krug suggest you pair it "from the simplest to the most sophisticated, from an aged parmesan to turbot à la truffe. It can be enjoyed as an aperitif with Jamon and mature comté or served alongside oysters, grilled shrimps, Indian or Moroccan. It can even take on desserts like carrot cake, tarte tatin and cheesecake."Tasted: 30 September 2024Tasted by: Anthony GismondiPrices:CDN | $425.00 | 750ml | estimated market price in Canada |
