Okanagan Falls, Okanagan Valley, British Columbia, CanadaThe 2022 Reserve Cuvée is a complex full bodied chardonnay fermented wild and aged sur lie 16 months in a mix of new, 1,2, and 3 year old French barriques. The Reserve, a select blend that gets some extra aging, has all the classic Blue Mountain Chardonnay traits: freshness, complexity, lemons, lees, honey, but with another layer of fruit richness. It's not sweeter, but an illusion of Grand Cru like weight takes you there. The elegant citrus styling that runs through the wine on a string of acidity seals the deal. I love the 13.5% level, too. The oak spice, from a combination of new, second, and third fill wood, is harmoniously integrated and will further meld into the background with additional time in the bottle. The wine is richly concentrated and textured, with crisp acidity to balance the weighty, rounded fruit. This was aged for six months in bottle before release, but it's still youthful and tightly wound, and the best is still yet to come over the next 3-5 years.
