Blue Mountain Pinot Noir Single Vineyard Block 23 River Flow 2022

Okanagan Falls, Okanagan Valley, British Columbia, CanadaThe style is fresher and cooler in 2022 with bright florals, black cherries, and a hint of Burgundy barnyard underneath. It’s an attractive pinot with another level of intensity and complexity, but still, it has that BC acidity to keep it fresh and elegant. Still young, this will age for six to eight years with little problem. Blue Mountain revamped its pinot noir program in 2017, adding three single vineyard labels that are more like individual blocks. Block 23, or River Flow, is a cool, north facing, eastern sloping section of vineyard planted to Dijon clones 113 and 114. It is own rooted, and vines are now 28 years old. The winemaking is more or less the same as the Reserve: the fruit is hand harvested, destemmed, and fermented wild in open top tanks for 14-18 days with light pump overs. From here, it is settled for 2-3 days and decanted into 228L French oak barrels. A full malolactic happens the following spring, and barrel to barrel racking allows the wine to age on its fine lees, further contributing to its richness and complexity.
