Okanagan Falls, Okanagan Valley, British Columbia, CanadaBlock 14, named Gravel Force, is a nod to the numerous small, round stones mixed into light clay over an old, dry river bed. It faces west and south, giving it a hefty dose of Okanagan Falls sun each day, building structure and power to the wine made from 35 year old 115 and 667 clones. The result is a more opulent, riper style, almost muscular, with hints of Bing cherries and plums, all mixed with a round cola savoury finish à la Central Otago. Okanagan Falls, Okanagan Valley, British Columbia, CanadaThis comes from Blue Mountain's oldest pinot noir block, now 35 years old, planted on a combination of gravel, loamy sand, and clay. It's a warmer block, with westerly and southern exposures, and this is certainly the ripest of the three single block pinots from this vintage. It shows macerated dark cherry and plum with cola spices, candied rose, and desert shrubs. The palate is rich and glycerous, with fine, silky tannins and rounded acidity, in an almost hedonistic style that still shows exceptional purity of fruit.
