Rodney Strong Rockaway Single Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon 2019
Alexander Valley, Sonoma County, California, United StatesThe 2019 Rockaway is more or less made in the same way as Brothers Vineyard and Alexander Crown, leaving each site to explain any differences. Rockaway was planted 30 years ago mainly to cabernet sauvignon with contributions from four other classic Bordeaux varieties. The elevation ranges from 225 to 700 feet, and the land generally slopes northeast and southwest, with gravelly clay subsoil over fractured greywacke sandstone. The clusters and berries are traditionally small and have a true mountain character, yielding bold flavours. In 2019, the growing season was among the best in years, and the fruit was pristine. The Rockaway style is slightly leaner, delivering more mineral and red fruit that give this wine a bright presence in the mouth. The palate is a mix of cassis, dark plums, blackcurrants, streaked with licorice, tobacco, and leather, and plenty of savoury Sonoma dried herbs and baking spices. Complex, intriguing, and ready for a long life in the bottle, the wine was aged 24 months in new French oak barrels. It is just starting to open up and has a long life ahead.Tasted: 17 January 2025Tasted by: Prices:BC | $99.00 | 750ml | Special Order - Mark Anthony Wines and Spirits |
