Rodney Strong Rockaway Single Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon 2019
Alexander Valley, Sonoma County, California, United StatesThe 2019 Rockaway is more or less made in the same way as Brothers Vineyard and Alexander Crown, leaving the site to explain any differences. Rockaway was planted in 1994 mainly in Cabernet Sauvignon, but it also grows the other four classic Bordeaux varieties. The elevation ranges from 225 to 700 feet, and the land generally slopes northeast and southwest, with gravelly clay subsoil over fractured greywacke sandstone. The clusters and berries are small in true mountain style, yielding bold flavours. In 2019, the growing season was among the best in years, and the fruit was pristine on arrival at the winery. The style is slightly leaner here, with more mineral and red fruit intrusions, keeping the wine vibrant and feeling lighter on the palate. The palate is a mix of cassis, dark plums, blackcurrants, streaked with licorice, tobacco, and leather, and plenty of savoury Sonoma dried herbs and baking spices. Complex, intriguing, and ready for a long life in the bottle, the wine was aged 24 months in new French oak barrels.Tasted: 16 August 2024Tasted by: Anthony GismondiPrices:BC | $99.00 | 750ml | Special Order - Mark Anthony Wines and Spirits |
