Rodney Strong Cabernet Sauvignon Alexander Valley 2021
Alexander Valley, Sonoma County, California, United StatesRetasted four months later, and it's tracking as you would expect. Rodney Strong recognized in the late 1960s that Sonoma County’s Alexander Valley was an exceptional area for heat-loving cabernet sauvignon. In 1971, he planted Alexander’s Crown Vineyard on a small hill in Jimtown and never looked back. The 2021 vintage is well regarded, with no frost and mild temperatures throughout most of the year, and it is one of the driest seasons on record. The result was an earlier than average harvest with approximately 15% lower yields but with a more pronounced concentration of flavours. The Alexander Valley version is suitably lush and round, with signature chocolate notes. Still, it also has considerable grip and weight to capture your attention as it shouts cabernet black fruit, spice, dried figs, and toasted oak. It is one notch above the Sonoma County version. It is aged 18 months in 50% new French oak.Tasted: 17 January 2025Tasted by: Prices:BC | $32.99 | 750ml | select private retailers; monopolies |
