Gómez Cruzado Rioja Blanco 2022
Rioja, SpainGómez Cruzado operates out of their 135 year old cellar (founded 1886) in the Station District, in Haro, the historic heart of Rioja. The bodega focuses on sustainably farmed old vine plots and indigenous varieties. This is a blend of viura, tempranillo blanco, garnacha blanca, and malvasia from a single high altitude plot in Haro, on stony alluvial / limestone soils. This used about 50% stems in the pressing, was native fermented in stainless before a part rests 5 months in French oak on lees, with the rest aging in concrete. The 2 Ano on the front label is an old term used in Spain to refer to whites released in their second year, as they benefit from longer ageing. Creamy pear, white peach, crystalline lemon is textured with downy lees and seasoned with light toast, shaping this through a lingering, subtly spiced finish. Deftly handled, pour stylish white in lieu of white Bourgogne.Tasted: 08 August 2024Tasted by: Treve RingPrices:BC | $29.30 | 750ml | select private retailers |
