Garzón Balasto 2020
Garzon, Maldonado, San José, UruguayBalasto, made in most but not all years since 2015, is a 42/39/19 mix of tannat, cabernet franc, and petit verdot in 2020, considered one of the finest ever growing seasons in Uruguay. Balasto joined Almaviva and Seña in 2017 as the only South American labels to be sold on the prestigious La Place de Bordeaux. The 2015 is a dense rich red wine that takes you to another level beyond all the Garzon reds. Only the best vintages and the best parcels grown over ancient meteorite granite make their way to Balasto. Like all the Grazon wines, Balstao has that Antonini/Bruzzone elegance that allows the rich black fruits to be front and centre without overwhelming the palate. The mid-palate and finish are mineral with hints of balsamic and spice. Finesse, more than anything, defines this wine. A nice jump up in refinement and style over 2018. It is fermented in 80 hl concrete tanks and aged in large neutral oak botti. Bodega Garzón comprises 1,000 vineyard blocks of varying microclimates and levels of humidity on slopes 17 kilometres from the Atlantic Ocean, close to Punta del Estate, La Barra and Jose Ignacio, surrounded by forest, rocky soils, boulders and palm trees.Tasted: 09 August 2024Tasted by: Anthony GismondiPrices:CDN | $90.00 | 750ml | estimated retail |
