Black Hills Sauvignon Blanc 2023

Okanagan Valley, British Columbia, CanadaIt's hard to describe the transformation of this wine under winemaker Ross Wise. It was always an excellent wine under the Alibi label, when it contained a percentage of sémillon. Still, Wise has slowly reduced the amount of sémillon in the blend based on the quality of the sauvignon blanc he now has access to. The fruit comes off Peller's High Terrace Vineyard near Covert Farms in the southern shadow of McIntyre Bluff. In 2023, the wine was entirely sauvignon blanc, and is impressive. The nose is lively and fresh with classic gooseberry herbaceous hints and intense lime. All are enveloped in a polished frame that presents another level of complexity. You will love the intensity and weight of this wine, plus the minerality that allows it to persist for an extended period during the finish. It's fermented in French oak puncheons and barriques with selected and wild yeasts and aged on its lees for six months. Only 15% is new (down from 25% in 2022), with the remainder aged in neutral oak barriques. A small amount was fermented in concrete. This wine will age well into 2029.Tasted: 06 August 2024Tasted by: Anthony GismondiPrices:
