Black Hills Nota Bene 2022

Okanagan Valley, British Columbia, CanadaThe 2022 Nota Bene chases the terroir of the Black Sage Bench in the South Okanagan and its distinctive savoury notes. Merlot takes the lead in 2022, which fits the finesse and elegance winemaker Ross Wise has been seeking as he slowly retools the winery's top-selling wine, bolstering the label's "Iconic" moniker with something far more interesting in the bottle and the glass. Both opulent and succulent, the merlot is the perfect foil for the cabernet sauvignon's herbaceous notes and the cabernet franc's floral vibrancy. The mid-plate is awash in blackberries and black currants with structural tannins lined by desert scrub sagebrush notes. We love the freshness here and the polished finish. You can drink this now, but it is going nowhere for a decade or two. The blend is 46/36/18 merlot, cabernet sauvignon, cabernet franc fermented with wild yeasts and aged 18 months in French oak barriques and puncheons. Some 47% of the oak was new.Tasted: 01 June 2024Tasted by: Prices:
