Veneto, ItalySome would say ripasso wines are a good alternative, at least value wise, to Amarone. Yet I’m not sure how many people know what an Amarone is or why passing (Ripasso) simple Valpolicella wine over the dried, raisin-like skins left over from Amarone production is good. The technique bolsters what some would say is a fresh, lightweight, red fruit affair, giving it more full-bodied darker fruit and plenty of spice.
