Mason Vineyard Cabernet Franc Rosé 2023
Twenty Mile Bench, Niagara Peninsula, Ontario, CanadaNumber three in the Collab Rosé Series with Brooke Husband began with gamay, then pinot noir, and now in 2023, cabernet franc. All the wines are wild fermented at Mason Vineyard, which is particularly useful for generating aromatics and even a bit of texture, something that can elevate a rosé above the crowd. The colour is a pale orange salmon. The nose is a muted mix of rhubarb and red berries with a citrus, floral underside that spills onto the palate. There is just a dusting of spice and pepper, and a dry, crisp finish full of minerality. It has the structure to take on barbecued chicken or sausages but would also be just as fine with a Thai noodle dish.
