Chivite Finca Legardeta Single Vineyard Chardonnay 2022

Navarra and Basque Country, SpainMono-varietals, as they are referred to in Spain, are a big part of the Chivite Legardeta range, including chardonnay, syrah and grenache. These are wines born of vines growing in one of the northernmost wine-growing areas on the Iberian Peninsula, Navarra. Over the last two decades, this wine has evolved into a much more exciting chardonnay, shedding weight and oak and upping its acid to become a far more interesting wine. The grapes are harvested by hand and carefully sorted before undergoing a short maceration and a quick, gentle pressing. Once settled, the must is transferred into a mix of stainless-steel tanks and French oak barrels, where it ferments and remains on its lees for about five months. From an awkward, heavily oaked caramel-flavoured style in the 1990s, the Legardeta 2022 Chardonnay is decidedly lighter, pitching pear and peach aromas and flavours with a twist of spice and cream and lees.Tasted: 12 July 2024Tasted by: Anthony GismondiPrices:
