Champagne Egly-Ouriet Les Vignes de Vrigny NV
Montagne de Reims, Champagne, FranceOne of the forerunners of the grower champagne movement, Egly-Ourier is based in Ambonnay, with 4th generation Francis Egly farming their old vines organically and biodynamically. From an east facing single parcel in the Montagne de Reims' 1er cru Vrigny, this pinot meunier comes off 50+ year old vines. Base year 2017 (with 20% reserve wines from the previous 2 vintages), it was native fermented in stainless, with no MLF before heading to bottle unfined and unfiltered, for 38 months on lees. This was disgorged September 2021 with 1 g/L. Pouring the deepest golden hue, this powerful champagne courses with apricot, white cherry, meringue, toasted brioche, white truffle, and roasted hazelnuts layered long on the palate. There's a smouldering chalky base underlying this vinous wine, now deepened with additional Maillard character. Powerful and intense, this is a vinous wine of contemplation.Tasted: 15 July 2024Tasted by: Treve RingPrices:QC | $125.00 | 750ml | SAQ |
