Black Hills Bona Fide 2022

Okanagan Valley, British Columbia, CanadaThe 2022 growing season started cool and extended into late flowering and fruit set in the vineyard. The heat returned in July, and the fall was warm and dry, capping off a year that was not only good, but as it turned out, plentiful in the vineyard. The 2022 Bona Fide is a 42/33/25 mix of malbec, carmenere, and syrah, whose combination shouts drink me now. This wine won at the 2024 National Wine Awards, taking home a prized Platinum medal. The palate is a juicy affair of black and red fruits dusted in savoury south Okanagan scrub and sagebrush. You can drink or hold this wine, it is up to you. The wine is hand harvested, bunch sorted, and destemmed, leaving a good portion of whole berries intact for the fermentation. It is fermented wild and matured in primarily concrete for ten months with a small portion being aged in 2000L neutral oak foudres. There is significant value here, indeed a testament to winemaker Ross Wise’s gentle touch.Tasted: 22 July 2024Tasted by: Anthony GismondiPrices:
