Liber Estates Rebil Pinot Noir 2021

Cawston, Similkameen Valley, British Columbia, CanadaThe Rebil (Liber spelled backwards) Pinot Noir is grown metres from the west facing banks of the Similkameen River, about 4 kilometres from the US border. The site has been farmed organically since 1962. It is uniquely positioned to take advantage of the sometimes cool, sometimes warm, wild and windy site that gets an added heat from what winemaker Mike Dowell calls "the shimmer effect", the late afternoon sun bouncing off the bend of the Similkameen during peak spring run-off that warms the vines, helping to kick start flowering. It is whole berry fermented at cool temperatures and barrel fermented for 10 months in French oak. The colour is light, but the flavours are intense, pitching spicy and savoury, with branchy forest floor. 2020 wowed the judges at the National Wine Awards of Canada, and this wine is easily equal. Look for a juicy, sweet black cherry entry with a floral underside, streaked with cinnamon and subtle tight grained oak. At 13.8% alcohol, it is nimble by New World standards. It is a lock pairing with grilled or baked salmon with a soya-based marinade.Tasted: 12 May 2024Tasted by: Anthony GismondiPrices:
