Le Vieux Pin Retouche 2021

Oliver, Okanagan Valley, British Columbia, CanadaRetouche, or retouch, is an ode to the historical practice of Hermitaging wines practiced in Bordeaux during the late 1800s and early 1900s. Syrah, often from the famous vineyards in Hermitage, was used, but there was no shortage of rail cars available from North Africa as well. The goal was to quietly and fraudulently bolster the weaker vintages and lesser lots with a bit of weight and roundness without interfering with the overall finesse of Bordeaux. Retouche is a cabernet sauvignon, merlot, and syrah blend, an approved blend in the New World, so no such subterfuge was needed. In 2021, nearby wildfires have impacted many of the vineyards on the Black Sage Bench, and with time, this bottle is exhibiting too much smoke across the wine, particularly in a lingering bitter finish. I look forward to 2022.Tasted: 04 May 2024Tasted by: Anthony GismondiPrices:
