Champagne Drappier Rosé de Saignée NV
Côte des Bar, Champagne, FranceThe Drappier family vineyard holdings are remarkably large, covering 100 hectares. It's taken the negoc family a long time to amass such an impressive holding in Champagne, where they're been actively buying vineyards since 1808. Drappier brought pinot noir to the Aube in 1930s. Vineyards are primarily located around Urville, in the heart of the Côte des Bar, where pinot noir is king and soils are limestone-centric. This Saignée Rosé, somewhat rare to see in Champagne, is entirely pinot noir, with its deeper hue the result of 2 days of maceration on skins in stainless, where it remains for fermentation and full MLF (5% are done in foudre). Once in bottle this spent 30 months on lees, and was disgorged with 6g/L. Strawberry and raspberry jam, red apple, and dark cherry is riffed with fine tannin across the expansive palate, with some oxidative kisses on the saline finish. Certainly unique, and one to think of with proteins.Tasted: 21 May 2024Tasted by: Treve RingPrices:QC | $64.75 | 750ml | SAQ |
