Boutinot Seguret Les Coteaux Schisteux Côtes du Rhône Villages 2020

Côtes du Rhône Villages, Southern Rhone, Rhone Valley, FranceLes Coteaux Schisteux, out of Séguret, hits all the right notes in 2020. Finesse and silky textures rule the day here, pulling you into the wine, but once there, the flavour profile is not just layered but deep. The site selection is crucial, and Boutinot says they prefer “high altitude east-facing vineyards with stony, argillaceous limestone terraces high above the slopes of schist above the pretty village of Séguret." Here, they work with 50-year-old grenache vines intermingled with some syrah. The result is a rich wine at the edge of being opulent, pitching layers of red and black fruit streaked with pepper, licorice, and tobacco. A big wine that sells for a small price. Perfect for rustic casseroles, lamb tagine with couscous, or a ratatouille topped with grilled tofu. Bravo.Tasted: 22 May 2024Tasted by: Anthony GismondiPrices:
