Alba, Cuneo, Piedmont, ItalyThe Marchisio family has been growing vines in Roero since the late 19th century. This organic barbera (15-30 yo vines) comes from Tenuta Ca' Du Russ, and is rooted in limestone marls. After a native ferment in stainless, this rested in a mix of stainless and large format acacia barrels. There's a brisk stony freshness here which holds barbera's intrinsic alcohol at bay, and allows the wild blueberry, cassis, and dusky black plum to shine. Tannins are ample and sticky, hugging this to a peppery finish.
