Domaine des Tourelles Vieilles Vignes Merweh & Obeidi 2022
LebanonFrenchman François-Eugène Brun fell in love with the Bekaa Valley during a visit, and set up Lebannon's first winery there in 1868. This is an equal split of local grapes merweh (100 yo vines from North Lebanon’s Bsharreh mountain) and obeidi (50 yo vines from Bekaa Valley), from 1100 - 1400m, all dry farmed, organically. Each variety was native ferment solo in stainless before a blend and short stint in stainless prior to bottling. Tart and crisp, with bitter melon, crunchy Asian pear, white grapefruit sailing along a sleek, narrow palate. There's a taut salinity underpinning this lighter white through a crushed stone finish. Give these old vines some time to open up in the glass, and don't serve too chilled.Tasted: 05 April 2024Tasted by: Prices:

Domaine des Tourelles Vieilles Vignes Merweh & Obeidi 2022
LebanonThis is a blend of two indigenous Lebanese grapes, merweh and obeidi, sourced from the north of the country. It's a distinctive wine, and you certainly feel the impressive concentration of these low-yielding old vines (100+ years for the merweh) on the palate. It's textured, saline, and savoury, yet with a sun-soaked warmth to the restrained fruit even at just 11% abv. The vines have not been pruned or treated for over two decades, so this is as organic as it gets. A fun discovery that is well worth exploring.Tasted: 05 June 2024Tasted by: Prices:
