Corcelettes Merlot 2021

Keremeos, Similkameen Valley, British Columbia, CanadaThe Similkameen’s climate and soil profiles were made for merlot, but an oppressive heat dome and regional wildfires conspired to make life tough for wine growers in 2021. The result is a rugged red with some smoky notes, but overall, this is a highly appealing merlot, especially if you are a fan of richer wines. It is an enormous wine with ripe dark plums, black forest cake, and blueberries dressed in a savoury coat of desert scrub, minerals, and brown spice. At Corcelettes, the merlot blocks are planted on varying aspects and slopes, but all are rooted in stemwinder soil. The merlot lots are aged separately for 12 months before carefully selected lots are blended and aged 6 months more. The 18 month program mixes 92% French and 8% American oak. This needs time, so lay this away through 2026.Tasted: 25 April 2024Tasted by: Anthony GismondiPrices:
