Vinos de Madrid, Castilla-La Mancha, SpainLas Moradas de San Martín sits at nearly 900 metres above sea level, on the fringes of the Sierra de Gredos, southeast of Madrid. This is an exceptional red full of dark plum and ripe cherry and raspberry, streaked with dried herbal high desert scrub. Fresh and bright, it has a modest amount of tannin at this point, revealing an authentic wild mountain wine finish. Both delicious and complex, it is a gastronomic wine. Think lamb. Only 21 hectares of vineyards surround the winery, but what vines they are. Initio comes from old bush vine garnacha, some as aged as 100+ years old, high and organically dry-farmed in granitic sandy soils. Seven days of cold maceration precede a native ferment over three weeks, prior to 14 months in French oak barrels. The final blend is bottled without fining or filtration.Tasted: 20 January 2026Tasted by: Prices:

Vinos de Madrid, Castilla-La Mancha, SpainLas Moradas de San Martin sits at a height of 870m above sea level, on the fringes of the Sierra de Gredos, in the unique landscape of San Martín de Valdeiglesias to the south-east of Madrid. 21 hectares of vineyards surround the winery. From old vine (some over 100 years), high altitude garnacha located at 900m in the windy Madrilenian slope, these organically dry farmed bush vines are rooted in the estate's granitic sandy soils. Winemaker Isabel Galindo is very hands-off in the winery, respecting the vines and farming. After a week of cooler maceration, this was native fermented over three weeks prior to heading to French barrels for an average of 14 months prior to the final blend. This was then bottled without fining or filtration. Ripe cherry, raspberry leather, fragrant tayberry, cracked mustard seed work through the muscular, yet finessed palate, aided by the mountainous altitude and cooling breezes. Tannins are somewhat wild and grippy / sticky, reminding us of the heritage of this wine and place. Drinking now (ideally with mushrooms / lamb).Tasted: 21 March 2024Tasted by: Prices:
