Veneto, ItalyThis Romeo & Juliet Rosso is an apassimento of Merlot, Corvina, and Croatina grapes, left to dry for 1 month into wooden trays before wine from the just-fermented grapes is added, kicking off a secondary ferment that lasts one month in stainless steel. The wine is then matured in cherry tonneaux (2nd use) for 3 months before the wines are blended. Plumped, plush, and jammy cherry is cut with a tart cranberry acidity, and framed with furry tannins that lead this to a soft, powdery finish. Veneto, ItalyPassion e Sentimento is dedicated to Verona, the City of Love. The label tells the famous love story of Romeo and Juliet, which lives on today through the messages left daily at Juliet's house on Verona’s Cappello Street. This rosso is a 40/30/30 blend of merlot, corvina, and croatina, hand harvested and dried for one month into wooden trays. The subsequent loss of 30% water content concentrates the grape sugars, enriching the structure of the wine. Each variety is fermented solo in stainless steel, and the wine is aged in large, 2nd fill cherry barrels for 3 months. The final blend follows, and as you might expect, the merlot and the drying give the wine immediate appeal and drinkability. The style is fresh cherry, berry with pleasantly spicy, soft tannins.
