Vasanti Estate Cabernet Merlot 2021

Okanagan Valley, British Columbia, CanadaThe blend is 47/17/36 cabernet franc, cabernet sauvignon, and merlot. The nose is tight-pitched, mostly dry earthy tones with only a hint of dark fruits. The Osoyoos fruit opens with good acidity on the palate, keeping it fresh throughout as the cassis and blackcurrant open up. Spicy and firm, this will need time to settle in, but it is off to a solid start. This was fermented in stainless steel tanks with daily (three) pump-overs before ageing in barrels for 19 months. The cabernet sauvignon was aged 50% in new American oak, and 50% in neutral oak. The cabernet franc was aged entirely in new American oak, while the merlot was aged 25% in new American oak and 75% in neutral oak barrels. It is a bit overpowering for the moment, so it should be consumed with more decadent meat dishes. It should age effortlessly through 2026 and soften along the way. The Sidhu family grows the grapes, and Jason Parkes is the winemaker.Tasted: 02 February 2024Tasted by: Anthony GismondiPrices:
