Foolish Wine Hooligan Meritage 2020

Okanagan Valley, British Columbia, CanadaMeritage (Hooligan) is one of 23 wines the folks at Foolish Wine intend to make. The Coghill and Main families own the winery, among other ventures, that include Yellowdog Brewery in Port Moody and Penticton, and Neighbourhood Brewing also in Penticton. When they decided to get into the wine side of the alcohol business, many of their friends suggested it was a Foolish idea. We shall see. At least they are business people who understand the highly regulated mess that is the BC alcohol business. They seem to have it together with this 2020 blend of mostly cabernet sauvignon with some merlot and a dash of cabernet franc. The wine is ripe and forward at 14.7% alcohol. Look for plenty of blackberries, blackcurrants, and dark red cherries that dance along the palate with a spicy undertow and mostly slick tannins. Drink or hold, but would be best now with a medium-rare steakTasted: 03 February 2024Tasted by: Anthony GismondiPrices:
