Rodney Strong Rockaway Single Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon 2018
Alexander Valley, Sonoma County, California, United StatesRockaway was planted in 1994 to mostly cabernet sauvignon and grows the other four classic Bordeaux varieties. The elevation ranges from 225 to 700 feet, and the land generally slopes northeast and southwest, with gravelly clay subsoil over fractured greywacke sandstone. The clusters and berries are small in true mountain style, yielding bold flavours. In 2018, the growing season was dry through spring with well below average precipitation, and cooler weather dominated, leaving only two relatively mild heat spikes to manage all year. Look for a well-balanced red and black fruit character, mixing black plum, light cassis, streaked with licorice, tobacco, and leather with plenty of savoury Sonoma dried herbs touched with brown spice. The wine was aged 24 months in new French oak barrels. It's currently wound tight and will likely stay that way through 2025 before beginning to blossom.Tasted: 12 January 2024Tasted by: Anthony GismondiPrices:BC | $99.00 | 750ml | Special Order - Mark Anthony Wines and Spirits |
