Cowichan Valley, Vancouver Island, British Columbia, CanadaIn a world of cheap white wine, many with zero provenance, the Unsworth Auxerrois brings a little sanity to the picture. The even better news is it is less aggressive in terms of acid than many Island whites, lending it a more mainstream appearance. The vines were planted in the early 1990s at Zanatta vineyard, and they have been singing for two decades. Only a few barrels are made, but the bottle is worth pursuing. The wine is fermented wild and pitches plenty of inviting ripe melon. The palate is a mix of melons and yellow fruits with the perfect level of acidity that is almost soft without inhibiting the freshness of the wine. This is a terrific wine to pair with spaghetti and fresh butter clams, or a Margherita pizza. Ready to drink.Tasted: 09 December 2023Tasted by: Prices:
Cowichan Valley, Vancouver Island, British Columbia, CanadaFrom Cowichan Valley's Zanatta vineyard, this was native fermented and rested 8 months in neutral French oak. The wee bump of RS is wiped out entirely by the crisp marine acidity, leaving pear blossoms, crunchy Asian pear, subtle melon, and a dusting of ginger spice. The time in neutral wood well suits this, gently softening the edges while providing a lightly spiced depth. Distinctly Wine Islands, this aromatic white is a light bodied charmer.Tasted: 16 December 2023Tasted by: Prices:
