SCEG 2021

Basilicata, ItalyIn 2016, Elena Fucci, responsible for saving her family’s high altitude, volcanic soiled vineyards and solidifying the appellation with her singular Titolo cru, began another passion project, SCEG (translation pomegranate), to help out friends of her 94-year-old grandfather Generoso. To preserve their vines and tradition, she makes this special wine from his friends’ vines, four parcels near her family’s vineyards, and vines ageing 70+ years. SGEC (pronounced Sheg) is organically farmed Aglianico, spending one year in 500L tonneaux and 6 months in bottle before release. Wild herbs, wild black fruit flood this structural palate, infiltrated with fragrant violets and smoky quartz, lit with mountainous acidity, and framed with firm, sticky tannins which draw this to a saline end. A beauty aglianico, primed for enjoyment now, though able to hold in your cellar over the next couple of years easy.Tasted: 11 December 2023Tasted by: Treve RingPrices:
