Mayhem Anarchy Merlot 2021
Okanagan Valley, British Columbia, CanadaThis is a full throttle, southern Okanagan merlot, absorbing all the desert sunshine and turning it back into this dense, smokey red. From their Anarchist Mountain Vineyard and 1994 planted vines, this was aged in 53% new French oak and 47% seasoned oak for 11 months. 2% cabernet franc was then tipped in, and this was returned to barrel for an additional 9 months. It was bottled unfined and unfiltered. Ripe black cherry, smoked blackberry, baked black plum is packed into the compact 14.5% palate, infiltrated with baking spices, and wrapped with sticky, gritty, and bitter-edged tannins. The finish lingers with espresso and bittersweet chocolate.
