Douro Valley, Northern Portugal, PortugalMono C translates that this is a mono-varital Castelao, with 25+ year old grapes from a single vineyard in Oliveira's clay loam and yellow slate soils, at 490m. As with all Seabra's reds, this was entirely whole cluster, and foot trodden in plastic bins with a 3 week ferment and maceration before 16 months in older 500L French oak. Wild black fruits, ample herbal thorns and brooding dark florals are structured with a slatey, firm underlay, and framed with inherently grippy, textural tannins.
