Luis Seabra Mono A 2021
Dão, Northern Portugal, PortugalAfter a successful decade as winemaker at Niepoort, Luis Seabra decided to break out on his own, leaving his name on the wines of Douro and elsewhere. Mono A translates to this being a mono-varietal Alfrocheiro, from Dão's granitic quartz soils. This vineyard was planted around 1987, in the foothills of the Serra da Estrela Mountain Range. This was native fermented with 40% whole cluster in 5000L wooden vats, and aged in foudre for 14 months. It was bottled without fining or filtration. Fragrant plum, perfumed wild flowers, cassis, anise flow across a tightly textural palate, framed by grippy tannins, and lofted with easy smoked stony acidity.
