Luis Seabra Indie Xisto 2020

Douro Valley, Northern Portugal, PortugalAfter a successful decade as winemaker at Niepoort, Luis Seabra decided to break out on his own, leaving his name on the wines of Douro. Indie Xisto blends Tinta Roriz, Touriga Franca, Tinta Amarela, Tinta Barroca, Rufete, Touriga Brasileira, Donzelinho Tinto, Malvasia Preta and Touriga Femea, from a sustainably farmed, blue schist soiled single vineyard in Alijó, planted since 1950 and at 580m elevation. This was native fermented, whole cluster in lagares with 10 days of maceration before resting 18 months in 500ml French oak barrels and saw very low sulphur additions throughout. Grippy and schistous, with a firm, fine grip holding perfumed cassis, wild blueberry, thorns, and rockrose. Tannins are textural and structural, while acidity is naturally lofted, carrying this elegantly powerful red through a lingering finish. Still tightly wound, enjoy now with a decant, or cellar. A wine of place.Tasted: 18 November 2023Tasted by: Treve RingPrices:
