Catalunya (Catalonia Cataluña), SpainGramona has always been a leader of traditional method sparkling wine in Spain, and was the founder of the collective Alliances per la Terra association in 2015 to unite like-minded growers in the area. Though the collective certified biodynamic in 2017, this special Brut Nature had been following the principals since long before, the family having made wine quite naturally since 1881. This Brut Nature of Xarel.lo and Macabeu is from the Font de Jui property, on calcareous clays between 100-350m. This release is the 2014 vintage, disgorged in March 2023 after 97 months on lees (!) under agrafe (cork). This is most certainly a serious, serious wine, with the extended time on lees unfolding out across the palate with layers of fragrant biscuit, toast, dried apple, subtle almond blossom, all brightened with slivers of green apple and twists of lemon peel.
