Contratto For England Blanc de Noir Pas Dosé 2019

Oltrepò Pavese, Lombardy, ItalyThis pinot noir from the Alto Langa was first fermented in temperature controlled stainless steel tanks, where it remained for nine months. The second fermentation takes place in the bottle, followed by a minimum of 36 months of aging on its lees. Riddling is done by hand before it is disgorged with no dosage. The style is impeccably fresh, offering cherries and tangerines with a marzipan underside. The colour is a pale, pale orange/red from the macerating Pinot Noir. Electric is the best descriptor, and a seriously good bubble. Buy, drink, and contemplate every sip. Contratto was founded in 1867 by Giuseppe Contratto, the oldest producer of sparkling wine in Italy. Their 1919 Contratto Extra Brut was the first vintage sparkling wine ever made in the country. “For England” was named in 1930, when Contratto began producing a lower dosage wine for the English following demands from England's Royal Court to bottle a drier wine.Tasted: 25 November 2023Tasted by: Anthony GismondiPrices:
