Vig Gamay 2022

Naramata Bench, Okanagan Valley, British Columbia, CanadaPenelope and Dylan Roche, owners of Naramata-based Roche wines, have launched a collection of labels tagged Vig (that’s short for vigneron or winegrower), which collaborates with renowned Canadian artists known for their bold style. The Roches asked each artist to create a label that illustrates their sensory experiences when tasting the wine. Vig 2022 Gamay, their first, is captured by Roanne Corteza, and sourced from a grower in north Oliver. Smouldering smoked morello cherry, wet forest, dried leaves rule this bricking, lighter red, making it appear much older than it should for 2022. It's time in medium toast hybrid American / French barrels most certainly are the cause, since there isn't any smoke taint in the area this year. Tannins are fine and whispy, and the slight palate is silken, leading this to a campfire ash finish. A bit too ashen for me.Tasted: 17 October 2023Tasted by: Treve RingPrices:
