JZ. Revolution Red Solera NV

Weinviertel, Niederösterreich, Weinland Österreich, AustriaWhen Johannes took over the family's 350 year old organic Weinviertel winery in 2013, he began practicing biodynamics (Demeter certified), as well as introducing soleras, Qvevri, and skin contact white wines. Red Solera blends Cabernet sauvignon from 2017, Rösler from a solera stretching back to 2016, and Zweigelt from 2019. Each year the Rösler receives a short maceration during fermentation before being combined in large old oak barrels for maturation. The Zweigelt is also briefly macerated before maturing in 500L oak. However, the cabernet sauvignon sees a long maceration as it ferments in 1000L terracotta amphorae. This is bottled unfined and unfiltered with no added SO2. Crunchy plum and downy raspberry flood this juicy, lighter, quite raw red, with tannins replaced by a slight tug of age, leading this to a brief, lightly spiced finish. Certainly natural, this could well suit a lighter roasted veg / mushroom dish.Tasted: 23 October 2023Tasted by: Treve RingPrices:
