Weinviertel, Niederösterreich, Weinland Österreich, AustriaWhen Johannes took over the family's 350 year old organic Weinviertel winery in 2013, he began practicing biodynamics (now Demeter certified), as well as introducing soleras, Qvevri, and skin contact white wines. Parcellaire Blanc No.1 is equal parts Chardonnay and Welschriesling with the latter whole cluster fermented in qvevri on the skins, then pressed and matured in 500 litre oak barrels. The Chardonnay is pressed whole cluster and fermented and aged in Acacia barrels for 8 months under naturally occurring flor. They are blended 1 month prior to bottling, unfined and unfiltered. Quite natural up front, with a sharp orange oil / bergamot twist leading into a lean palate of wild pear, ale, tangerine, marcona almonds and a riffing salinity that sails through the end.
