Liber Estates Rebil Chardonnay 2019

Cawston, Similkameen Valley, British Columbia, CanadaThe Rebil (Liber backwards) Chardonnay is grown on the west facing banks of the Similkameen River about four kilometres from the US border. It is a fabulous exposition for this organic vineyard, situated on a cool, wild, and windy site that gets plenty of sun. Winemaker Mike Dowell calls it "the shimmer effect" of the sun bouncing off the bend of the Similkameen that runs directly up to the foot of the vineyard. This wine has an eerily Chablis Grand Cru style, as in a dry, rich, and complex front end and a nutty, leesy undercurrent. It is complex and lengthy, with some bitterness in the back end but not enough to disturb the balance. Delicious at 13.5 percent alcohol, it is still just a baby. Dowell says he and his wife instantly fell in love with the vineyard the first time they saw it. I contend that you will fall in love with this chardonnay the first time you taste it.Tasted: 01 September 2023Tasted by: Anthony GismondiPrices:
