De Martino Ungrafted Gravel Soils Cabernet Sauvignon 2021

Isla de Maipo, Valle del Maipo, Region del Valle Central, ChileHow much do I love this wine, and how well does it illustrate the allure of ungrafted vines, in this case, from the region of Isla de Maipo in the Maipo Valley? It is hard to describe the vitality of this cabernet sauvignon that begins with 13.5 percent alcohol. The vineyard is planted on alluvial terraces with gravel soils that are the perfect medium to translate the terroir through the stones into the vine's original roots. The winemaking is traditional, with grapes destemmed and fermented in stainless steel with native yeasts before spending 12 months in French barrels. The magic is in the mouth, where elegance and style are intermingled with perfectly ripe cassis and blackcurrant streaked with tobacco and graphite. It is cabernet sauvignon unmasked that you can drink today, but it will only improve in the bottle through 2030.Tasted: 15 September 2023Tasted by: Anthony GismondiPrices:
