Itata Valley, ChileA unique field blend of pais (80%) and san francisco (20%) from vines planted potentially before 1905. Pais, also known as mission, is undergoing a renaissance in Chile, benefiting from a swarth of old vines in the Itata Valley. San francisco is less common (it can't even be found in Jancis Robinson et al's Wine Grapes) but alongside pais, accounted for the original plantings in Chile. This shows an attractive, juicy nose with an underlying sauvage character, showing sappy wild berries accented by stemmy herbs, dried florals, graphite, and a dusting of brown sugar.
