Code Wines Single Clone Syrah 2021

Okanagan Falls, Okanagan Valley, British Columbia, CanadaThis newer Okanagan winery is the vision of Shay and Harlee Code, the farmers and owners of this organic 5-acre Okanagan Falls east bench estate. They began planting in 2017 with chardonnay and syrah. Over the past three years, they've made their wines at Naramata's Roche Winery but have recently launched their operation. This 2021 Syrah is from a single unknown clone planted in 2017 across two blocks on their Peach Cliff Mountain estate vineyard. This was 2/3 destemmed and whole cluster fermented before 11 months in French oak (25% new). It was bottled unfined and unfiltered. Super smokey, with roasted meats, grilled black fruits, and BBQ spices infiltrating a fuller body, laced with cracked pepper. There is an easy swell of acidity keeping this fresh and slippery on the medium palate, framed with lightly sticky tannins. Primed for drinking now, ideally with fire-grilled fare.Tasted: 28 September 2023Tasted by: Treve RingPrices:
