Martin's Lane Sperling Vineyard Riesling 2022

East Kelowna Slopes, Okanagan Valley, British Columbia, CanadaWhen Anthony von Mandl bought Sperling Vineyards, there wasn’t a lot of fanfare. It was more of a vineyard purchase and a promise to pass the 150 year old family site to another family that would carry on the tradition of growing grapes on the land. The East Kelowna vineyard was planted over clay soils streaked with calcium with clone 21B riesling, and eventually farmed biodynamically. Interestingly, Martin’s Lane winemaker Shane Munn closed a circle he began early in his career as Ann Sperling’s assistant at Malivoire Wine Company in Ontario, where he was first introduced to biodynamic viticulture. The first Martin’s Lane release is spectacular, clocking in at 10.9 percent, and the flavour profile is off the charts. There is a wealth of residual sugar here, but the acidity is equally fixed, allowing the electricity to flow. Look for floral, juicy lime pulp, with litchi and white pepper that persist across the palate. If you don’t open it with a favourite spicy Thai dish, this will last forever in the bottle. It was certified organic.Tasted: 13 August 2023Tasted by: Anthony GismondiPrices:
