Lodi, Central Valley, California, United StatesSmoked chocolate and blueberries mix with saddle leather and spice here. The attack is warm with rich baking spices, vanilla, black cherry, and more leather and tobacco in the back end. It’s a bit one dimensional, with some dead fruit in the finish. A Monday night zinfandel best suited to hamburgers or ribs slathered in BBQ sauce. Far more interest here on the mid-palate, not just fruit but leather cedar, and tobacco, give it some welcomed complexity. Drink all autumn with any number of mushroom dishes.
