Artífice Llanito Perera 2020

Tenerife, Canary Islands, SpainBorja Pérez is an ex-race car driver-turned winemaker based in the northern part of Tenerife. After his previous high octane career, he decided to take over his family business, creating the critically well-received wine project Ignios. Pérez, however, wanted to make a range of accessible wines under a new label, Artífice, working with local island varieties, and restoring old ungifted vines back to health, organically. Llanito Perera comes from listán branco grown on the area's sandy, stony basalt. This was native fermented and aged in 500L oak barrels for 1 year. alluring licks of reduction link this to the volcanic soils of Tenerife, mingling with meadow herbs, subtle quince, wild lemon, and ample marine salinity, running deep and long across the sleek 12.5% palate, finishing with a saline wash. Listán Blanco, aka Palomino, always takes on this shape when grown on these soils: with darts of reduction and intrinsic salinity. A lovely example of place here, this is drinking beauty now and over the next couple of years.Tasted: 30 July 2023Tasted by: Treve RingPrices:
