Okanagan Valley, British Columbia, CanadaI love this 12.8 percent alcohol chardonnay, named after proprietor Eric Savics’ eldest son Eric Jr., affectionately known to many as “Bear,” because it is brimming with freshness. It is made to drink young, and it comes from Osoyoos, Okanagan Falls, and Kelowna with a bit of Chablis-like character. Oyster shells, minerals, and floral dominate. Balanced and lively, the 50/50 stainless steel and older barrel fermented delivers the freshness and brightness coveted by connoisseurs. Great value in a highly overpriced market. Back up the truck.Tasted: 05 May 2023Tasted by: Prices:

Okanagan Valley, British Columbia, CanadaBear is a nod to the nickname of Tantalus owner's son, and typically made from the estate's youngest vines. However, the blitzing cold winter of 2021 and 2022 spring bud damage devastated these vines, so Tantalus was forced to source grapes from across the valley. The result was this blend from growers in Osoyoos, Okanagan Falls, and from a neighbour in East Kelowna Slopes. This was fermented in a mix of stainless and older barriques /puncheons, with partial MLF and 3 months on lees. Apple fritter, fragrant Asian pear, lemon thistle rule the plumped palate, padded out with lees and fine oak spicing through the snappy finish. A big disjointed, but partnering with creamy risotto or scallop dishes should assist.Tasted: 19 June 2023Tasted by: Prices:
